Memorials

Choosing a memorial can be a difficult task, but at Alderson’s Family Funerals, we are able to offer advice and assist you in purchasing a lasting tribute that’s perfect for your loved one.

We can help you to choose or design the most suitable memorial from our large selection of premium quality headstones, using an array of different materials. We also offer additions such as marble statues, memorial vases, porcelain photographs and ornaments.

We use a local monumental masonry company who are members of BRAMM (British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons) and their memorials are fixed to comply with NAMM (National Association of Monumental Masons) regulations. All memorials are made subject to permission from the relevant churchyard or local authority cemetery, and certain restrictions may apply regarding the type of stone allowed, and the design. We will make all the necessary enquiries on your behalf and advise you accordingly.

For those who would like to see an old tribute for a loved one restored to its former beauty, we also offer a memorial renovation service. We can visit the memorial for a survey in order to provide you with an accurate estimation of the work that needs doing, i.e. whether a full renovation is necessary or a simple clean and re-inscription will suffice.

Based in Durham and serving the surrounding areas such as Newton Hall, Belmont and Coxhoe, Alderson’s Family Funerals would love to help you create the perfect tribute for your loved one. If we can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

FAQs & Advice

To help you during this difficult time, Alderson’s Family Funerals have compiled a list of frequently asked questions and their respective answers below.

If you would like to take further steps to remember your loved one after the funeral, there are a number of different options available to you. For example, you could consider our range of keepsake items, such as scatter tubes and memory stones, memory bears, keepsake jewellery or you could put your loved one’s name in the memorial book.
It’s not always easy to know what flowers would best suit the funeral you are arranging, but it’s not uncommon to see any of the following: sprays, wreaths, sheaves and baskets, posies, hearts and cushions, and crosses and letters. If you would like to see our flower brochure or would like some expert advice from our team, please contact us.
Yes you can, but in order to do this, we will need the deeds or definite confirmation as to the location. Most councils require the deeds or an indemnity signed. There are often strict rules regarding the erection of memorials in churchyards and cemeteries and we can advise you of these at the time.
